Red Nose Pit Bull Health
Red Nose Pit Bulls are always friendly and eager to please their
owners. Pit Bulls in general are known to be aggressive with other dogs
due to their history for fighting, but are gentle when around people.
When your dog is young, it is required to spend a great deal of time
around them to establish the bond necessary for obedience
training. It
is also advisable to have other dogs either living with them or around
them as much as possible. You must establish complete authority with Pit
Bulls immediately. Give your dog the opportunity to be around other dogs
in public to socialize them. Pit bulls should be around strangers and
have the opportunity to become acquainted with a variety of
personalities and smells. This will help your dog develop a well
mannered temperament. When any sign of aggression presents itself, it
should be dealt with immediately and if possible by a professional dog
trainer.
Red Nose Pit Bulls must be exercised rigorously for approximately
half an hour to 45 minutes daily. Pit bulls have an excessive amount of
energy and love to be as active as possible so be sure to give your dog
lots of daily activity. Always keep your Pit Bull on a leash especially
in public areas. This is the only way to prevent fights with other dogs
that they may encounter.
As with any dog, keep your Pit Bull updated on vaccinations
especially as puppies with booster shots. All yearly vaccinations need
to be up-to-date including shots for fleas and worms.
Always feed your Pit Bull a premium quality dog food. Meat needs to be
the main ingredient along with the appropriate amounts of crude fat,
crude protein, and fiber.
Pit Bulls need to be brushed daily since they do not shed much.
Because of their short hair and thin skin the best brush to use is one
with firm bristles. Pit Bulls also are prone to oily coats so to keep
the doggy smell down bathe your dog once a week at the most. If you
bathe your dog more than this it will dry their skin.

Pit Bulls can develop hip dysplasia as well as cataracts so be sure
to take your dog for regular checkups and be on the lookout for these
problems. Early detection of these conditions gives your dog a better
chance of being treated with better results. Breeds such as Pit Bulls
can be tested for hip dysplasia when they are puppies to see if they
will develop the condition. If the condition is present your puppy can
be treated early and possibly avoid this debilitating disease. If hip
dysplasia is left undiagnosed and you have plans on breeding your dog,
the dysplasia will be inherited by the puppies.
Joint conditions in Pit Bulls is very common since they are a very
active breed. The constant motion of twisting and pulling on the joints
from rigorous activity often injures joints. To prevent strains, sprains
and muscle tears walk your dog for about 15 minutes prior to any
rigorous activity. This will help in warming up the joints.
Always walk your dog on grass or dirt instead of concrete or asphalt.
Walking them on soft surfaces reduces the impact on their joints. All
types of exercise such as walking is a necessity for Pit Bulls as long
as it is not done in excess as it can damage joints. Playtime and
workouts should not be overly rough. Keep activities and playing on the
light side and let your dog cool down after playing or exercising to
avoid cramps and sprains.
